How to set up and use emergency features on your Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+)

Your Fairphone comes equipped with built-in emergency features to help you quickly contact emergency services and share critical location details with trusted contacts. This guide explains how to set up and use these safety tools on your phone.

Devices and network requirements

This guide applies to The Fairphone (Gen. 6) and The Fairphone (Gen. 6+).

The Fairphone (Gen. 6) does not feature satellite connectivity. Emergency calls, location sharing, and safety alerts rely on a standard cellular network connection.

How to call for help using Emergency SOS

Emergency SOS allows you to call emergency services instantly without unlocking your phone.

To trigger Emergency SOS:

  1. Rapidly press the physical Power button five times in a row.
  2. The phone will automatically initiate a call to your local emergency service (such as 112 or 911).
  3. If you have location sharing enabled, your phone will also send your current coordinates to your designated emergency contacts.

How to use the Personal Safety app

The pre-installed Personal Safety app allows you to automate location tracking and safety check-ins during high-risk situations.

Emergency sharing

Emergency sharing broadcasts your real-time location directly to your chosen emergency contacts. You can activate this feature inside the Personal Safety app whenever you feel unsafe.

Safety check

Safety check sets an automated timer for situations where you want to confirm your well-being (for example, walking home alone at night).

  1. Open the Personal Safety app.
  2. Tap Safety check and set a duration for your timer.
  3. When the timer expires, the phone will ask you to confirm that you are safe.
  4. If you do not respond to the prompt, the phone will automatically send your live location to your emergency contacts.

How to add medical information to your lock screen

First responders can access essential health details from your lock screen without entering your passcode.

To add your medical info:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Safety & emergency.
  3. Tap Medical information.
  4. Enter details such as your blood type, allergies, and current medications.

  5. Tap Emergency contacts to choose trusted people from your contact list.
