The Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+) is designed to operate safely across a wide range of temperatures, though intense usage or ambient heat can cause it to feel warm in your hand. You can manage your device temperature and check its internal health directly on your phone.

Safe temperature ranges for your phone

Normal operating temperatures for electronic devices range from 25–43°C. You can safely use the Fairphone when its internal temperature stays between -10°C and +55°C.

  • Temperatures below 0°C: The battery will discharge faster than usual in freezing conditions.
  • Temperatures during high usage: The phone may experience slightly higher temperatures during intense tasks, such as playing games or running system updates.

Plastic materials transfer heat differently than glass or metal. Because of this design, the Fairphone may feel warmer to the touch than other smartphones, even when operating within safe temperature limits.

How to check your internal temperature

You can view the real-time internal temperature of your phone at any time using the pre-installed app:

  1. Open the My Fairphone app on your phone.
  2. Tap Phone on the bottom navigation menu.
  3. Tap Phone health to view your temperature details.

What to do if your phone overheats

High ambient temperatures can affect battery performance and overall hardware health. Follow these steps to protect your phone:

Do not charge the phone if the surrounding air temperature is above 40°C.

If the internal phone temperature reaches 60°C:

  1. Stop charging the device immediately.
  2. Restart the phone by powering it off completely.
  3. Allow the phone to cool down for a few minutes before powering it on again.
