How to use Dual SIM on your Fairphone
You can keep two active mobile numbers on a single Fairphone using Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology. This guide explains how your phone manages active connections and how to set up call settings so you never miss an incoming call.

How Dual SIM manages your connections
Both SIM cards remain ready to receive calls and text messages while on standby. However, your phone can process only one active connection at a time for phone calls or mobile data.
In your phone settings, you can choose your preferred SIM card for:
- Outgoing phone calls
- Sending SMS text messages
- Mobile data connection
What happens during active calls
DSDS technology uses one shared antenna path during an active call. When you speak on SIM 1, SIM 2 goes on temporary standby.
During an active call on SIM 1:
- Incoming calls to SIM 2 will not ring.
- Your phone will not display a missed call notification for SIM 2.
And vice versa.
How to avoid missing incoming calls
To ensure callers can always reach you when one line is busy, set up your call features in your phone app:
- Open the Phone app on your Fairphone.
- In Home tap the Menu buttons (three lines on the top left)
- Tap Settings > Calling accounts and select your active SIM or eSIM.
- Turn on Call waiting to hear alert tones for incoming calls on your active SIM.
- Set up Call forwarding between SIM 1 and SIM 2 so calls route automatically when your other line is busy.
Setting up call forwarding between both SIM cards ensures incoming calls automatically reach you even while you are speaking on your other line.
TIP: Enable Voicemail on both SIM cards so callers can leave a message when you are unavailable.
