What to do if your Fairbuds 2 battery won't charge

  • Updated

If your Fairbuds 2 are not charging or holding a charge, trying a different charger or recalibrating the modular battery usually resolves the issue. Follow these step-by-step instructions to get your device back up and running.

Step 1: Check your charger and cable

Before troubleshooting the internal battery, rule out external charging equipment issues:

  1. Connect your charging case using a different USB-C cable and wall adapter.
  2. Verify that your charger outputs a minimum of 5V – 0.5A.
  3. Charge your charging case for at least 30 minutes to check if the charging indicator LED turns on.

If the charging light does not turn on or your Fairbuds 2 still fail to charge, proceed to recalibrating the battery.

Step 2: Reseat the modular batteries

Because Fairbuds 2 are designed for owners to replace their own spare parts, a loose connection can prevent the battery from receiving power. Cleaning and reseating the battery restores proper contact.

Reseat the earbud batteries

  1. Remove the earbud silicone ring by holding the earbud stem, locating the notch, and lifting to pull the ring directly over the stem.
  2. Locate the battery compartment door underneath, which features a tiny access groove.
  3. Grip the groove with your fingertip and lift open the compartment cover.
  4. Remove the old battery.
  5. Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth.
  6. Reseat the battery firmly, making sure the polarity (+/-) matches correctly.

Reseat the charging case battery

  1. Open the charging case lid, take out both Fairbuds, and set them aside.
  2. Close the lid, turn the charging case over, and use a T5 Torx screwdriver to turn the bottom screw counterclockwise until removed.
  3. Open the lid, insert your fingers into the charging case core, and gently pull the outer shell away from the core.
  4. Flip the case core over to locate the battery on the bottom side.
  5. Use a fingernail to hook under the tab on the left side of the battery, lift up, and remove the battery from its slot.
  6. Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth.
  7. Reseat the battery firmly, making sure the polarity (+/-) matches correctly.

After reseating the battery, connect your charging case to your charger to check if it can charge.

Step 3: Calibrate the battery

A full charge and discharge cycle helps recalibrate internal battery measurements:

  1. Fully discharge your earbuds: Use your Fairbuds 2 continuously (including the charging case) until the battery reaches 0% and the earbuds turn off automatically.
  2. Recharge to 100%: Place the earbuds into the charging case and charge until the indicator light turns green (approximately two hours).
